Trillian for Mac arrives as an alpha
by Seth Rosenblatt Font size Print E-mail Share 11 comments Yahoo! BuzzShare Multi-protocol chat client Trillian follows up its resurgence last year with a long-rumored Mac version. Trillian for Mac is an unstable alpha, lacking many of the features that make Trillian Astra appealing on Windows, but even so it offers users a good idea of what's to come from Cerulean Studios.

This build isn't really ready yet to compete with the popular Adium, but cross-platform users will appreciate that the contact sync works. Enter in your Trillian username and password and all of your other instant messaging accounts will be imported, including passwords. Basic IM functions are fine, with support for Trillian's proprietary protocol Astra, as well as Windows Live, Yahoo, Facebook Chat, AIM, ICQ, XMPP, Google Talk, Bonjour, and MySpaceIM. File transfers work, as do most Mac hot keys, iTunes tracking, thought bubbles above avatars during chats, and drag-and-drop.

There's much that's missing, though, so don't expect to jump to Trillian right now. Social network feeds don't work yet, nor do group conversations or e-mail support. Growl support is also missing, and while you can see your friends' avatars, personal avatars aren't working yet. The Preferences window is skeletal, too. The full list of what should work and what doesn't is here.

Cerulean Studios also offers an iPhone version, and Trillian for Mac will sync contacts and other changes with its iPhone sibling. Tell us your thoughts on Trillian for Mac in the comments below.

Trillian jumped the shark a long time ago. No way are they gonna be able to compete with Adium on the Mac.

What's the purpose of this if we have an adium that sort of works...well okay the video doesn't work and the facebook chat is kludgy at best. But I've used trillium on pc's and it seems the dang thing eats up the entire desktop, i just want the thing hovering in a corner like i can do with adium.

Adium is all I use on my mac, considering how awfully slow, loud, stupid and annoying iChat is. I used Trillian on my Windows boot and it doesn't even come close to Adium. Good luck to the guys at Cerulean Studios, but I seriously don't see Trillian making any headway against Adium.

The problem with Trillian is that they aren't free. Even if they can grab a fraction of the users from Adium, which I don't think will ever happen, no one is going to pay for it.

For some reason I have just never gotten around to using Trillian, perhaps because I didn't feel like dragging out my windows machine just to try another IM agent but now that Mac is on the way I might have to give them a try.

Adium, can we all say Adium. Best IM client period, regardless of platform.

Instead, we see people with ugly timberland shoes store problems in whom God is working so they can bloom beautifully — just like I now see in my orchids whether they are “lumps” or blossoms! On a certain timberland work shoes day at a certain hour, we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we get there, so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our timberland wheat shoes lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, *ing the minutes for timberland for you loitering --waiting, waiting, waiting for the station. It is a good thing that the God Who made us is not impatient with people like me with my timberland shoe company orchid. He lovingly thinks about us all the time timberland boots and he even temporarily gave up His heavenly home and his timberland traditional handsewn hold on diety to die for the sins of timberland mens custom world nearly 2,000 years ago. His death back then covered the sins of every cheap timberland boots person who will ever live. He then rose to life after three mens timberland chukka? days and ever since has wanted us to accept His gracious act by loving Him and also those around us. When we do this, we will see people in a totally different timberland womens premium boots light — one that redefines what it means to be ugly or different or weird or strange. http://www.timberland4you.co.uk/
